Honduras Finca Caracol
Fed up with depending on their husbands and fathers for economic survival, a group of women in Honduras’ Marcala region decided to start their own cooperative.
Back in 1993, a group of women created COMUCAP - a women's coffee cooperative in southwest Honduras, empowering women for economic independence. Women from the community came together to produce and sell honey, aloe vera, wine, and coffee to financially support themselves. They eventually used their profits to buy land with higher elevations and more fertile soil capable of producing specialty coffee, and founded Finca Caracol in 2002.
Today, the women from Finca Caracol export six shipping containers of coffee per year, own wet mills, drying patios, their own compost production plant, and an ecotourism business as well. Fun Fact: caracol translates to snail, and the name is often used for rural vacation homes.
We are roasting this coffee with a little bit more of a developed profile. The added roast really brings out the chocolate and nuttiness, so if you are looking for a coffee with a slightly darker profile, this one's for you!
